The Nature of Gangneung: Sources of Inspiration
Nature has always been my most profound source of inspiration.
Simply by observing it, I am deeply moved by its quiet magnificence and the fragile balance that sustains it. The living world constantly fills me with questions that have no clear answers, and instead of trying to solve them, I paint. Through painting, I transform those unspoken thoughts into color, texture, and space.
When I paint landscapes, I seek to weave the visible beauty of nature with the invisible layers of emotion and memory within the human spirit.
Living in Gangneung, a small coastal city in Korea, I am surrounded by mountains, sea, and forests that inspire me every day, much like Van Gogh was drawn to Arles. The scenery here is not just beautiful—it becomes a language of reflection, guiding me back to the canvas again and again.
Walking through pine forests near the shore, I often feel as though time slows and silence begins to speak. In those moments, I am reminded of why I paint. Mountains, lakes, flowers, and trees are not mere subjects; they are living companions that mirror my emotions and trace the passage of time.
Through color, line, and form, I continue to explore the mystery of existence. The process is filled with self-doubt and quiet struggle, yet it is within this tension that my art breathes. Each brushstroke becomes both a question and an answer, as I strive to capture the light that connects all things.
